The National Brittany Specialty was held by the Brittany Spaniel Club of Canada in Calgary, Alberta on August 3, 2002 . Thirty Brittany Spaniels competed. There were 41 entries in show, obedience and agility, coming from Ontario to Oregon and including many Albertans. Cold, rainy conditions challenged exhibitors and campers at the weekend's Alberta Kennel Club events. Given record highs in Calgary in early August, snow was an even bigger surprise. Agility trials were postponed on account of slippery contact equipment. Dogs shivered through group judging under tents usually used by show staff for shade from the sun. But luck and pleasantly warm weather were with us on the afternoon of the Brittany Specialty. All regular and non-regular classes were judged by Miss Dolores Maltz, from Lakewood, Colorado. Miss Maltz has judged for the past 17 years throughout the lower states and around the world and was glad to visit Canada for this prestigious specialty. In her 20 years of professional handling experience, she showed a number of Britts and is a lover of this "wonderful breed". The outstanding young dogs impressed her, especially the senior puppies. She was pleased that the Brittanys "looked like they could work the field as well as stand up in the conformation ring."
